Admiral Nimmich completed a 33-year Coast Guard career, five years in private sector, nearly four years in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). He is currently a Partner at Potomac Ridge Consulting.

Admiral Nimmich is nationally recognized as an innovative leader and foremost expert in emergency management, business development, maritime security and law enforcement, maritime safety, and maritime response. He has a proven track record of successfully serving in increasingly challenging executive level positions with the USCG, academia, private sector and more recently FEMA.

As Commander, the First Coast Guard District in Boston, MA, he directed port security activities in the critical ports of New York and Boston in the post 9/11 environment. He also oversaw high visibility search and rescue cases and critical fisheries enforcement operations. As Director of the Joint Interagency Task Force South, he engaged interagency and international partners to plan, resource, and execute operations against incredibly innovative, highly mobile asymmetric dark maritime and air threats to counter transnational criminal terrorist organizations. He also extensively engaged Chiefs of Defense of foreign militaries, U. S. Ambassadors, and directors of federal law enforcement agencies on maritime security issues, intelligence capabilities, and information sharing.

Upon retirement from the Coast Guard, Admiral Nimmich was requested by name to join The University of Pennsylvania, Applied Research Lab to serve as the Senior Maritime Domain Awareness Advisor to the Knowledge Management Director in the Chief of Naval Staff (N2N6). He was personally responsible for the development of Navy maritime domain awareness (MDA) strategy, development of risk-based fleet assessments, and international/interagency engagement.

He entered private sector with Raytheon Corporation and served as Director of Maritime Surveillance and Security in Raytheon’s Homeland Security section.

He also supported Booz Allen Hamilton as a Subject Matter Expert, providing guidance and insights on a wide array of opportunities in the Federal Government, commercially and internationally. He helped senior executives shape business opportunities across all sectors leading to increasing corporate growth. Developed strategic direction for the Homeland, Transportation and Justice Accounts. I joined Potomac Ridge Consulting to better support DHS and DOD by advising a wide array of companies the ability to understand the federal government’s mission and needs to improve mission outcomes.
