Mr. Mark Cramer
Mark Cramer is an attorney, chief executive, and consultant with over 45 years of experience in leading and guiding governmental, non-profit, and for-profit organizations at the local, state, and federal levels. He currently serves as a Senior Advisor to the Supply Chain Global Solutions practice at FTI Consulting, Inc., and on the Boards of Directors of a number of non-profit organizations.
Much of his career has centered on logistics, supply chain and transportation, and how public, private, and military organizations optimize their effectiveness and mission objectives in those interdisciplinary sectors. He helped found and subsequently led the Institute for Defense and Business for seven years. During this period, he also served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. He also was engaged for eleven years with the conceptualization, siting, design, federal and state funding, construction, international relations, military engagement, and operation of the NC Global TransPark, a multimodal transportation, manufacturing and distribution complex developed by the State of North Carolina.
During his career he has served as President or Executive Director of the Institute for Defense and Business, the Center of Excellence in Logistics and Technology, the Greater Gaston Development Corporation, the Real Estate and Building Industry Coalition, and the Piedmont Public Policy Institute. He has been the General Counsel of a Federal Agency, the U.S. Government Printing Office, during the Reagan Administration, and later counsel, Federal Liaison and Secretary of the N.C. Global TransPark Authority, then chaired by the Governor of North Carolina. He also was a partner in a Washington, D.C. law firm, and later practiced law in Charlotte, N.C. In addition, earlier in his career he was a partner or officer in organizations focused on promoting trade between the United States and China, and he helped found and run a real estate development company.
Mr. Cramer is a past Chair and Vice Chair, and currently serves as a Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Carolina Museum of the Marine and its Al Gray Marine Leadership Forum. Mr. Cramer has been a member of the Carolina World Trade Association Board of Directors, the Logistics Division of the National Defense Industry Association, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Board of Directors and its Advisory Board, Business Executives for National Security, the Administrative Conference of the United States (adjunct), the N.C. General Statutes Commission, and the 1992 Electoral College of the United States, among other organizations.
Mr. Cramer is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is a member of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar and the State Bars of North Carolina (senior status), District of Columbia (Inactive) and Florida (Inactive).
He is a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine conferred by the Governor of North Carolina, the Public Printer’s Gold Medal for Distinguished Service to the U.S. Government Printing Office, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation Captain of First Flight Award.
